So there is no director’s commentary track on the Frozen discs. This makes me sad, so to fix it, I made my own.
I love Commentary Tracks because I gain some significant insights into the film from them. All I can do is sort of gush all over the movie.
I suggest you queue up the movie, mute the movie’s sound, but turn on closed captions so you know what is going on. There is some intro and then I give you a countdown to start which should keep things in sync.
A little tribute comic to Harold Ramis
I got this idea watching The Day of the Doctor for the millionth time.
This is awesome beyond.
The Day of the Princess, anyone?
Oh, for God’s sake! DISNEYLAND STANDS!
Today is Alie Day. My friend, Alie, also known as WhisperWings and WisteriaPrincess, a wonderful person and talented artist was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer. She has faced this with bravery and grace, even though the doctors have said she has less time than she deserves. Today, we celebrate her life and raise awareness of liver cancer. The color for liver cancer is green, so today we post green photos and pictures in support for Alie.
Most people who know her associate her with her character Lissy, but for me, I’ll always remember Cindy. I met Alie in her Cinderella RP blog, evergentleandkind, and after that we (forgive the pun) had a ball. She eventually created an evil Cinderella twin that my Dr. Facilier fell in love with, and boy was that fun to play. We had so much fun playing as Cinderella or Cindy, and they were the times I looked forward to the most. So, to celebrate today, I made this picture of Cindy and Faci to commemorate our good times role playing together.
I would have also added a picture of myself wearing green, but my camera’s broke.
So, here’s to you Alie. Thank you for being so amazing, thank you for all the fun memories, and thank you for the privilege of knowing you.

21 January is Alie Day.
My friend Alicia, also known as Alie by her friends and family and wisteriaprincess here on Tumblr, was diagnosed with stage 4 live cancer at the beginning of the year. After a few complications the doctors have found that the cancer has spread too far and they have given this wonderful girl only 4-6 weeks left to live.
To help show our support for Alicia and to create Liver Cancer Awareness we will be wearing green on 21 January. I kindly ask that you also wear green on 21 January to help create awareness for Liver Cancer and to show not only Alie, but every liver cancer sufferer, that they are not alone in the world and that we are thinking of them.
Post your pictures of you wearing green on 21 January here on tumblr and tag them “Alie Day” and also submit them to Ruebarb and she will collect all the photos.
We also ask artists, writers and all creatives to create a piece for Alie Day.
Please help spread the word by reblogging this post.
Happy New Year Everyone!
Here is my collection of Frozen fic to keep you awake.
Loved (with hew chapter 12/31/2013) Exploring some of the possible backstory of the royal family of Arendelle.
Hans Takes Arendelle a What-if fic, if Hans could have won the throne of Arendelle, though actually…
Before I go any further, I just want to say a few things:
- I’m calling it an “appreciation post” in the loosest possible sense. You will not see me trying to justify his treatment towards Elsa or acting like it’s okay. Maybe I’ll try and explain why he thought it was okay, but I won’t try to justify it. Because there’s nothing good about sending your men out to kill an innocent woman and I won’t pretend there is. Even the “defense” bit is more to do with what people have said about him.
- There will be a lot of spoilers in here, so if you don’t want to have the movie spoiled for you, it’s probably best you don’t read this. It’s also quite long.
This is really interesting and I agree with pretty much everything. One thing I wanted to add — I also noticed the look of shock and sadness, almost, on the Duke’s face in the scene where everyone is told that Anna’s dead. I read it as completely genuine. The Duke has nothing against Arendelle, from the way he’s presented in the movie. He’s trying to charm the new queen and the princess — I honestly think he just wants an even closer trading relationship with Arendelle, probably one that’s more beneficial to him than the one he’s currently got, maybe one that would be detrimental to Arendelle’s economic interests…we don’t really know because those sorts of details that actually would have been interesting to explain the plot and motivations of these characters were just kind of left out (uh…guess it’s obvious that I had some story issues with this film).
But, all that is to say that I don’t think he wanted anything to happen to Anna. After all, with Elsa out of the picture Anna would become queen (I assume she was the heir after Elsa). He’d danced with this woman, too, so he had a personal connection to her. Everything bad that we see the Duke do is motivated by fear of Elsa’s power (I don’t consider his conniving to get more out of the trade relationship particularly bad; it may not be admirable but it doesn’t make him a villain), and he has no reason to fear Anna because she doesn’t have that power.
I agree with this, especially after seeing the movie for a second time. There’s no real reason for the Duke to want anything bad to happen to Anna. As you said, he has no reason to fear her at all. Plus, there’s really no reason for him to fake his reaction in that scene, so yes, I believe it was genuine.
It’s kind of hard to say how bad his plans were, though, because we don’t really know what they were. We know that he set out to “unlock Arendelle’s secrets and exploit its riches” which certainly sounds unpleasant. But we don’t really know how he intended to go about this before he found out about Elsa’s powers. He may have just intended to charm the new queen, as you said. He may even have resorted to blackmail (he did seem interested in finding out why the gates were closed, after all).
You know, when I watched the movie, the Duke reminded me of something but for the life of me, I couldn’t think of what it was. Then, while I was watching an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, it hit me! He’s a less sympathetic version of Quark, or any Ferengi character for that matter.
He’s a short comedic character who is greedy, self centered, and cares more about his profits than anything else. He talks up everyone in a facetious nice guy act that used car salesmen are famous for, especially the ladies with lots of money. He tries to come off as a respectable man of dignity, but his ineptness and lack of tact just make him a target of laughter. When trouble shows up, he reacts with fear and panics, winding up the people, but isn’t brave enough to deal with it himself, leaving that to his men. And while not totally heartless, he isn’t above taking advantage of a crisis. He’s a Ferengi!
The character is totally a Ferengi! Hell, that scene where he tries to feign a neck injury at the end only to go “No? Well, worth a try.” when it doesn’t work, that was exactly what Quark would have done in that situation. No wonder I can’t help but love him even though he’s a total weasel. (WESEL!)
